Sedo’s week-long .tv auction ended on April 8 – the auction was a fantastic success for .tv, and we’d like to share a few data points with you:
- One hundred and eleven (111) .tv domains were auctioned, with registration fees totaling over $785,000.
- The winning bid for business.tv was over $100,000.
- Well over 3,600 bids came from bidders located in 34 different countries.
- Each bid that was received near the end of the auction automatically extended the auction time for 10 minutes – some domains had so much bidding activity that the auctions were extended up to three additional hours.
I love the fact that bidders came from so many different countries – it really reinforces what we believe here, that .tv is universally recognized and associated with online video. I’d also personally like to express my gratitude to Sedo for their work on the auction – Mark Klein and the Sedo team’s professionalism and around-the-clock efforts to make the auction a success really paid off. As the former GreatDomains Chief Appraisal Officer, it was interesting to be “the customer” – and fascinating to be involved in my first-ever .tv auction!
As always, we look forward to your comments and feedback on our posts. Rest assured that we have reviewed all of your comments and have posted many, and we consider all your feedback in our longer-term planning and goals for the .tv extension. We are committed to growing the .tv extension and are always continuing our efforts to promote and increase adoption and brand awareness as the tld for online video.

Great Quote Tom,
“universally recognized and associated with online video”
It really was an incredibly phenomenal showing for .TV.
There has always been an arguement of where .TV has stood among the rankings of all other tld’s. Some peoples opinions have been equal with .info. Some other opinions have been lower than .info.
Well, I spent a little time last night going over the Sedo/Verisign .TV Auction results, AND going over the Top 100 domain sales so far this year.
I have come up with some amazing eye opening results to the newfound power .Tv has amongst all the other tld’s.
Because of the Premium .TV New price changes, and because of the success of the Sedo/Verisign Auction, .TV now ranks 3rd in sales for this year….ahead of .info, and even ahead of .net…WAY ahead of both now!
If you get a chance please read my .TV Official Ranking Article at my blog TheDotStop.com
I spent some time and serious researh into my findings, and I am sure you and/or any .TV fans would be able to appreciate this awesome .TV News.
Funny thing is, I have forgotten about that blog of mine for over a year, but because of my excitement from this New .TV buzz, I just figured I had to tell the world! LOL
Now we just have to work on getting rid of all of the previous legacy .tv Premium renewal fees, and then..Watch out .com!!!
Take Care,
Vito.
Thanks for your comment Vito, and for your blog post! Your research is great and it highlights the momentum we are trying to bring to the .tv extension – business.tv took the #23 spot DN Journal’s 2010 YTD Top 100 Chart and #5 on their ccTLD’s YTD Top 100. This is just one area of our efforts to increase .tv’s brand awareness and adoption – there will be more marketing, events, registrar promotions, and surprises coming this year so stay tuned!
