We’re Going to Open Video Conference!

Posted by Michaela B., Verisign

This week .tv will be one of the showcase sponsors of The Open Video Conference in New York City. Held at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) on October 1st and 2nd, Open Video Conference is a summit of thought leaders in business, academia, art and activism where they explore the future of online video. The .tv team will host an exclusive lounge at OVC on Friday, October 1 where attendees can relax, recharge and exchange stories with other content creators. There will be representatives available to help attendees set up their own .tv domains via Name.com and eCaster.

Vlogger and .tv influencer Steve Garfield will host a power version of his popular lecture “Web Video Made Easy: A Crash Course” On Friday, October 1st from 5:30 to 6:30pm. This presentation includes tips & tricks for producing great videos, including the latest in cameras, lighting and microphones. You’ll learn about capturing video, editing techniques, adding music, exporting your video for uploading and various hosting choices. Definitely a highlight of the conference.

Later that night, .tv is excited to sponsor the Open Video Conference Afterparty at 92Y Tribeca. Steve Garfield will lead the crowd to set the world record for the most videoed dance party. Audio-visual mixologists Eclectic Method will perform and inspire audience members to capture footage on their own video enabled phones or with Flip cams they can check out with a valid drivers license. Partygoers will be encouraged to upload their footage to a site that’s been created specifically for this event, Openvideo.tv, in order to set the world record.

Openvideo.tv will be an eCaster-run site that allows conference attendees to post videos of conference activities, including the party sponsored by .tv, to a collaborative site. The videos on openvideo.tv will be mirrored on the openvideoconference.org site so they can become part of the larger OVC stream.

Free drinks for OVC badge holders from 10-12. Not to be missed!

On day two of OVC, eCaster’s James Hodge will co-host with Dan Walmsley a conference session called “Build Your Own YouTube in 10k Lines of Code.” The session will explore the many benefits to hosting your own video. In this workshop, participants will be guided through the process of rolling their own video sharing site using an open-source transcoding system and Amazon EC2.

Throughout the conference VeriSign partners Name.com and Fyshh will be at the event to help participants learn how easy it is to buy and put their .tv domain to immediate use. More advanced users can buy and manage their .tv domain via Name.com and manage it as an extension of their current web site. Users who want an effortless path to buying and publishing their videos can use eCaster, an iPhone application developed by Fyshh in  partnership with VeriSign, to set up and immediately begin sharing video content on their .tv site.
