There is a lot of exciting news lately for some well-known .tv sites – TWiT.tv, Justin.tv and Blip.tv. We’re happy to see these three sites getting praise and recognition for their success and growing popularity. Check out the latest buzz from these .tv sites here.

First, Leo Laporte of TWiT.tv is interviewed by Janko Roettgers of NewTeeVee about the company and Laporte’s goal of being the “CNN of tech” by adding new shows, expanding the site’s scope and reach and planning for even more expansion into live-streaming and other endeavors.

Next, Justin.tv becomes the subject of the latest episode of “TechCrunch Cribs” (itself housed on TechCrunch.tv) as Jason Kincaid takes a look at the space Justin.tv is housed in while they talk about the main site as well as their new Socialcam product, which has been heralded as the Instagram for video.

Finally, Blip.tv is a big part of this New York Times story on how their recent redesign, spotlit here, is part of an overall trend among online video aggregators and distributors to aid the audience in discovering what’s new and potentially interesting from an ever-increasing number of shows and one-off productions that are seeking viewership.

In addition to the big redesign of Blip.tv there’s plenty of other activity in the .tv world in the last couple of days:

Bee.tv has released a new iPad app that takes the experience it introduced online to the tablet experience, providing recommendations to users based on where they’re located and what they’ve previously signaled they are interested in. Users can also invite friends to watch shows at the same time they are and then engage in conversations around those shows. We had turned the .tv Spotlight on to Bee.tv last June and were among those interviewed as part of our presence at SXSW.

Time Warner has made a “strategic investment” in BlackArrow.tv, an advertising systems provider for new platforms. The company says the money from Time Warner will be used for further rollout of its advertising system, which is specially designed to accommodate on-demand and other non-traditional video options.

Both of these stories, combined with examples like Shelby.tv which recently launched an alpha version of its video recommendation service, Synchronize.tv which is looking to move news tickers to a second screen and others signal an unmistakable trend, that .tv domains are being used for services that have some sort of correlation with television itself. .tv has always been about branding a site as having video but now we’re seeing that becoming even clearer as these companies seek to convey to their audiences easily and clearly that their site and service is about not just video, but TV.

Very exciting news from our friends at Blip.tv: The company has relaunched their site to emphasize the discovery of original web series. That’s a laudable goal and it’s great to see Blip.tv working to make sure that people can easily find – and enjoy – these original video voices.

Blip.tv’s homepage now highlights some of the most popular shows on their network as curated by the Blip.tv staff. Individual show pages have also been given a facelift that allows select creators to customize the page with promotional materials and pick an episode they feel is most representative of their series and which will allow for new viewers to jump in easily. While not everyone will get access to this functionality, Blip.tv is rolling it out to those who have demonstrated high production values and other dedication to their show.

You can read more about the relaunch on NewTeeVee, AdAge and TechCrunch, which conducted this video interview with Blip.tv CEO Mike Hudack.

In this second episode of our new series “Best of .tv” we interview Cliff Ravenscraft of GSPN.tv. GSPN (Generally Speaking Production Network), created by Cliff with his wife Stephanie, is an online media content network that’s home to over 23 podcasts on topics ranging from religion to television shows to technical help for creating your own podcast and much more. Cliff was an early .tv adopter and has had a lot of success with his .tv. Join us as he shares his experience and gives us advice on how to start a successful .tv site.

Next we check in with “Best of ‘tv” correspondents Kosher Dillz and Flex Matthews who were selected to be the next .tv stars during a contest at SXSW in Austin, TX. Last month they flew out to San Francisco and had the tour at Revision3, the company behind Diggnation and Scam School. We gave them a camera so that they could show us what their day was like and the results are, as usual with Dillz and Matthews, entertaining.

Finally we highlight the blip.tv party that was held in celebration of the company closing another round of funding. Blip.tv is a great example of what the next generation media network looks like and focuses on helping independent show creators with the distribution of their shows. They had an amazing party to celebrate their success surrounded by the best of NYC’s video community. We’re excited to see them grow!

We’d like to offer up applause on the recent funding of a very visible member of the .tv community. Blip.tv just announced it raised $10MM. So far in my feedreader, the news got picked up in the New York Times, Tech Crunch, and Venture Beat.

The Web site generates more than 90 million video views a month, has 44,000 producers, and more than 50,000 original Web shows. Blip.tv hosts and syndicates shows to iTunes, YouTube, Vimeo, AOL Video, Verizon FiOS, TiVO, Sony Bravia, The Roku Digital Video Player and Facebook. Blip.tv splits all advertising revenues with show creators 50/50.

From Venture Beat:

“We started in 2005 with a simple mission: to change the entertainment industry by making independent show production sustainable and scalable,” cofounder and chief executive Mike Hudack said in the announcement. “We’re moving on to the next phase of executing against that mission …. We’re making more shows sustainable every single day, and now we’re going to accelerate that change even faster.”

Good luck on that mission Blip.tv!

Yes it’s Friday again, and there’s still a bunch of open tabs in the browser and unread stories in the feedreader. Here’s a quick list of video stories from the week that might be of interest:

Comcast Rolls Out TV Everywhere: Well not everywhere yet (not all Comcast subscribers have access yet), but it’s a start. Some of the reviews I saw said it was slow still and there are many naysayers for the concept. Plus, one might wonder if it’s more a move to slow the video equivalent of cord cutters verses a real service to customers. That said, it’s still an interesting move by a big player to the three screen video world everyone has talked about for years now.

Video and Shoes: I promise, I’ll stop talking about this one, but I saw some actual statistics from Zappos: they sell 6% to 30% more merchandise when accompanied by video. Wow!

Streamy Awards: Submissions opened this week. And, the International Academy of Web Television, that puts on the awards, named Blip.tv co-founder Dina Kaplan Vice Chair.

Santa Gets in the .tv Mood: For those wanting to send a special someone on their list a video from Santa, try out www.PortableNorthPole.tv. Thanks to my Facebook friends for pointing this out.
