This new report from our friends at the The Diffusion Group confirms something we’ve heard before…social networks drive video and media consumption. Their report “Recommendations from Social Network ‘Friends’ have pronounced Impact on Media Consumption” was just released.

That makes sense when you think of it, the water cooler has come online too. But this report shows a magnitude that is quite enlightening really. Says Michael Greeson, TDG Founding Partner and co-author of the new report, ” Close to 90% of social network users (56% of all Internet users) have consumed music, books, TV programs, or movies in the last six months because of the recommendation of a social network “friend.” In fact, I have off the record information from some video sites that they get more traffic from Facebook than Google.

As was said at Blogworld last week, make your site the hub of your presence online, but use social networks to drive traffic to it. Viral video can have volume (oooh, I love alliterations).
