In all seriousness though, “Habitat has built over 300,000 houses … in nearly 90 countries and in all 50 states … providing more than 1.5 million people in 3,000 communities with safe, decent affordable shelter.” Pretty impressive. Taking it to our local level here in Loudoun county, one of the richest in the US, officials are still predicting a “shocking shortage of 30,000 affordable housing units by year 2030”.

In this current economic climate especially, it was great to help out (even a little) and made me thankful for all I have. My daughter works with her high school’s chapter of Habitat, two of my uncles have built houses for them for years and I’m glad to join the crowd.
