We spent the weekend in beautiful San Francisco as a sponsor at WordCamp San Francisco. Not only did we meet amazing people and companies, but we also got to sit in on some really educational and inspiring sessions – including, of course, Matt Mullenweg’s “State of the Word”.

We’ve sponsored a few WordCamps this year (in fact, it was great to see quite a few people from other events in SF), but it was the first time we had a chance to see Matt speak. One of the things we really love about these events is how passionate this community is about blogging and WordPress, and watching “SOTW” it’s easy to see where that comes from.

Some stats that blew us away:

“22 of every 100 active domains created in the U.S. are running WordPress.”

“14.7 percent of the top million websites in the world use WordPress.” (source: W3Techs)

“WordPress now has 15,000 plugins and 200 million plugin downloads.”

We met a lot of great people in San Francisco – including a lot of international Word Campers (everyone knew and loved .tv!), who were a lot of fun to talk to. We took a lot of photos and video – check them out on our Facebook Page and our YouTube channel. One of our favorite interviews was this one with the author of The WordPress Bible, Aaron Brazell. Aaron discussed the Second Edition of his great book and also shared some terrific WordPress Top Tips:

We want to thank the great people at Automattic, especially Rose Goldman, who really watched over us, clued us East Coasters in taxis and great sushi, and really made #wcsf a great experience.

Thanks to everyone who came to spin the wheel at our table and talk to us about their .tv WordPress sites and all of the great video they’re creating. We had a great time and can’t wait till the next WordCamp!

No sooner are we almost fully recovered from a great time at WordCamp Boston than we’re off to WordCamp San Francisco! We’re excited to be part of this, the biggest WordCamp event of the year. Come stop by and see us August 12-14 at the Mission Bay Conference Center to talk online video and enjoy all the informative sessions that WordCamp SF has to offer this year – from large-scale, professional installations to workshops for first-time users.

We’re looking forward to this being another great WordCamp event. Getting to know the people in this remarkable community – from high-profile developers to the end users (like us) who use WordPress to broadcast our message into the online world – has been a fantastic experience. So if you’ll be there as well stop by, say hi and let us know what you already know about the .tv platform (or would like to learn more about!).

Let us know on Twitter if you’ll be there and make sure to follow us throughout the weekend as we bring you updates from sunny (and sometimes chilly) San Francisco!

We are just back from WordCamp Boston and we had a fantastic time! John Eckman and his team did a really wonderful job organizing such a great event (thank you John!) – one of the best events we’ve been to! We also were able to get Boston native and Content Rules author CC Chapman to interview some of the participants and give the last talk on Saturday, “Video Content Rules” – thanks CC! We learned (and laughed) a lot!

We felt a lot of .tv love from the Boston WordCamp community – our sponsor table was always busy and the prize wheel never stopped. We gave away a lot of new .tv swag – lots of bags, t-shirts, pens and stickers – and we have more to give away soon.

We also had a lot of great conversations with really interesting people, all who had really great advice:

Tom Catalini – talking about his Top Tips fro WordPress success

Hanna Arnold on using WordPress as a CMS for Higher education

Andrew Norcross discussing design for WordPress

Chris S Penn discusses marketing your blog

Tin Dizdarevic talking about Zemanta and link love

Our own Tim Norris talking about why .tv loves the WordCamp community

Now we’re not playing favorites – but if we were, we’d say our favorite person we met on Saturday was Violet. 12-year-old Violet has a webshow called, “Oh Snap, it’s Violet“and we love seeing someone her age so confident and passionate about online video (also with a very involved Mom!). Watch this video and be totally charmed.

Thanks again to John and everyone who made WordCamp Boston so special!

And of course, we’ll have our prize wheel handing out .tv goodies to attendees.

One of the sessions we’re looking forward to most is the Lightning Talks on Saturday. We were lucky to be able to secure CC Chapman as the emcee of this session. CC is really well-known in the social space with his wide scope of work as an author (his latest book, Content Rules, co-authored with Ann Handley), blogger, Podcaster, Digital Dad photographer and entrepreneur. CC will be emceeing the talks and also give his own, “Video Content Rules”.

At .tv, we love WordCamps and WordPress – this is a passionate community who love sharing what they know about their favorite blog platform (which is what we run our own Watch.tv blog on!). We can’t wait to meet everyone in Boston, so tweet us if you’re going and be sure to stop by and say “Hi!”

Much like he did for NAB, Tim recently attended WordCamp Orange County and brought back the following report and video interviews.

We had a really great time at WordCamp Orange County this weekend! It’s exciting to be a part of an event with such a passionate (and welcoming!) community. Jeffrey Zin and his team did a fantastic job of organizing the event and we had some really great conversations with the speakers and attendees about how they are using online video in their blogs and businesses.

There’s a ton of photos and videos being posted about the event and you should keep checking the site to see the “official” stream. We were lucky enough to interview a number of the speakers, which can be seen on our Facebook page and our YouTube channel.

The best part of these interviews? Each of these really accomplished people took the time to share their Top Tips for blogging or making online video with us and we can’t wait to share them with you.

Thanks again to Jeffrey Zin and everyone at WordCamp OC!

A .tv address can be used in many ways. WordPress.tv is a great example of a customer that has a .com domain but added a .tv version of its name to point users directly to videos all about their products. There are great videos there showing — not just telling you with text — how to get the most from your WordPress platform. As you may know, WordPress is an open source, community-built platform and that applies to the videos also. There are lots of great videos from many WordPress enthusiasts. WordCampTV also lives at WordPress.tv with videos from the many WordCamp events held around the world.

We’re a new resident in the blogging neighborhood, but it’s a big place with Wikipedia reporting 200 million WordPress powered web sites worldwide. We’re pleased to join the community here at the Watch.tv Blog.
